2017 Guildford Book Festival Day at The Guildhall
The Greedy Queen: Eating with Victoria
Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts
Dr. Annie Gray and Dr. Christopher de Hamel Friday 13 October 2017

"The Greedy Queen: Eating with Victoria" is the new book by The Arts Society lecturer, food historian and BBC R4 presenter, Annie Gray.  It takes an original look at what Queen Victoria ate, how she changed English food forever and reveals new insights into the extraordinary world of the royal kitchen and Victorian lifestyles.       Two 1 hour lectures with morning coffee and homemade cakes.

Christopher de Hamel's fascinating and beautiful book "Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts" has won both the Duff Cooper Prize for non-fiction and the Wolfson Prize for history. Dr. de Hamel will talk about how medieval manuscripts and Books of Hours, objects of supreme luxury and symbols of national identity, can through their stories, give us a new perspective on our history, art and culture.  Two 1 hour lectures with afternoon tea and homemade cakes.

Cost is £18.00 per session (i.e. per two lectures)
